Join the Academy of Preachers in inviting teens to test their skill and creativity by unleashing the power of the spoken word. Use the Gospel Slam to call out new voices in your youth program as they share the gospel in their own words. Create a Gospel Slam with your group and then bring them to the National Gospel Slam on January 3, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead. Registration fee for presenters is just $25, so multiple youths can present.
Witness, Sermon, Poem, Prose, Rap, Story! Imagine an evening full of 3-minute presentations all created by teens to speak to their generation. Their words are to be rooted in the Word of God, making their unique mark on the text and telling their story.
Where do we start?
- Following the theme Gospel in the City, choose from the following texts:
Matthew 9:35-38, Jeremiah 7:1-11, Psalm 136, Isaiah 61:1-4, Luke 19:1-10, or Acts 1:6-8
- Lead your group in a study of the text.
- Guide your group to create a message in their own words based on the text.
- Involve one or more in the presentation, as you mentor and call out their gospel voices!
Individuals or groups can be Gospel Slammers. The spoken word may be accompanied by music, drama, images or movement, just keep the main thing the main thing – original spoken word.
Give them what they need to succeed – the time and attention of a mentor/coach. The journey together will pay off as the coach proudly introduces the work at the Gospel Slam. AoP requires this element because excellence demands it.
Each submission will be evaluated based on established criteria. The feedback is only for the presenter(s) and mentors. The more who participate, the more young voices are heard.
The Gospel Slam is part of the National Festival of Young Preachers, Jan. 2-4.
