Today we begin a new web site series: profiles of the Young Preachers who have registered for the Festival scheduled for January 7-9, 2009. Since Caela Wood was the first one to register, she is the first one profiled. She is a student, ready to graduate, from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. She is associate pastor at the First United Church in Bloomington, Indiana.
On Friday we will post our second Profile of a Young Preacher, and thereafter, twice a week we will add the Profiles. Toward the end of the year, we will increase the schedule in order to give each Young Preacher some time on the front page! After all, it would take 50 weeks to share the news of all 100 Young Preachers; it is only 39 weeks until the great event!
Young Preachers can register for the Festival by down-loading the Registration Form from this web site, completing it, and returning it to the Academy office in Louisville. The Registration requires the endorsement of a sponsoring congregation (who also sends a check for $100) and the signature of a Mentoring Preacher (who agrees to attend the Festival to introduce the Young Preacher).
Only 100 Young Preachers will be accepted for the Festival. Deadline is October 1, 2009. A running list of those registered is found elsewhere on this web site.
